The smallest number of domestic vacationers (8 percent) travel between 500 and 599 miles. Since 84 percent of all vacation trips utilize a car, truck, or recreational vehicle, and 54 percent of all family trips include kids, its easy to see why 599 miles isnt a terribly popular travel distance, falling just after “Im so bored I could scream” and a little before “I want to go home.” According to the TIAs forecast, 63 percent of Americans intended to do some vacation travelling this summer, a number that has remained fairly stable during the past six years - as has the number of people for whom “vacation travel” means “trips to the bathroom” - 14 percent of those polled by the TIA predicted they would be spending their vacation time going nowhere in the summer of 1999. The reason? Money, for one.
An online poll conducted by Yahoo! Travel and National Geographic Traveler magazine named New Orleans the top family vacation destination in the United States. The distinction is a positive reflection of the citys tourism advertising and marketing campaigns, according to Sandra S. Shilstone, president and c.e.o. of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corp.

Established in 1933, this bimonthly magazine covers the US and international commercial brewing industry.
Congress, the National Association of Corporate Directors, directors, and others have criticized the appropriateness of having insider directors on the compensation committee of the board of directors. For example, the National Association of Corporate Directors (1993) advocates compensation committees that are truly independent. In a poll of directors of Fortune 1000 firms, 84% of respondents believed that compensation committees should be composed entirely of outside board members (Directors Publications, 1992). Even the US tax code reflects concern with insiders serving on compensation committees. A 1993 amendment to the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (Section 162(m)) disallows a tax deduction for compensation in excess of $1,000,000 for certain top executives if performance goals are determined by a compensation committee that includes even a single insider director. These concerns and regulations could reflect the perception that compensation practices are more preferential toward the CEO, and at shareholder expense, when the compensation committee includes insiders. Although there has been much discussion on this topic, there is almost no empirical research that tests for a relation between the composition of the compensation committee and CEO compensation decisions. This research begins to fill this void. We explore and examine whether the composition of compensation committees of boards of directors influences CEO compensation. The results of our study address the concerns of interested parties, and provide support for calls for public policy initiatives regarding the appointment of insiders to compensation committees. Recent evidence suggests that cross-sectional differences in stock-option grants are inconsistent with optimal contracting (e.g., Yermack, 1995). Our results indicate that stock-option grants following firm-specific price declines are more consistent with managerial self-dealing than with optimal contracting. Further, our results indicate that Salys (1994) finding, that additional stock-option grants are made when options go deeply out of the money due to a market-wide downturn, is more likely to be consistent with managerial self-dealing than with optimal contracting.

Many family practice residencies include the teaching of family systems theory and family therapy in their behavioral science curriculum. A review of the literature demonstrates that family medicine is attempting to incorporate a family systems perspective into its skills. [1-5] The authors of this paper perceived a need to design a framework for conducting a single-session family interview that is structured, goal directed, and of practical use to the family physician when dealing with illness management, family decision making, and adjustment reactions. The physician, while not a therapist to the family, is often in a position to help family members talk to each other about a painful topic, to help them acknowledge and accept angry feelings so that they can move toward more constructive behaviors, to reassure them that what they are doing is enough, or to help them plan for the future. The importance of the family has been demonstrated in various medical situations: definitions of the nature and seriousness of symptoms, [6] family members love and support as a risk-lowering factor, [7] family stress levels affecting health,8 decisions on health care utilization,l family support as a predictor of the patients level of cooperation with physician advice, and family as the social group most immediately affected by illness and medical treatment. [9] In addition, by respecting the role that family members play in patient problems, the physician can help to create an emotional climate in which patients are unlikely to perceive the physician as being negligent. [10] The guidelines presented in this paper are useful to faculty who are teaching in residency programs and for physicians in community practice. The family interview outline integrates family systems concepts with the basic tools of medical interviewing. This interview format can be integrated into the behavioral science curriculum of family practice residencies as a learning objective for residents. In the family practice residency at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, the interview format is demonstrated at a monthly conference in which a case presented by a resident is followed by a family interview that the family therapy consultant and presenting resident conduct together. On an ongoing basis, residents are encouraged to schedule family interviews that employ this format and to obtain supervision and consultation from behavioral science faculty members when planning this intervention.

Steel fibres are gradually becoming an established reinforcement option of choice for prefabricated elements and structures. Their use increases the load-bearing capacity and durability of individual construction elements, and Hochtiefs prefabricated garage system has now received the approval of the German Institute for Construction Technology in Berlin. Hochtief has been involved in developing prefabricated garage and modular unit construction systems and evaluation equipment for the past 35 years. Its state-of-the-art automated formwork equipment for garage systems, for example, has been designed for maximum flexibility. When combined with the time savings generated by faster retooling, this results in improved cost– efficiency while maintaining quality. Formwork systems and process engineering are subject to continuous rationalisation. The Hochtief Group has two computer-controlled automated formwork machines that permit the fabrication of over 300 variable garage and modular unit systems. For safety and quality reasons, the company decided to base its application for approval on destructive testing rather than on computational methods. The results confirmed the work of the engineers, who took into account the conditions established by the new automated formwork equipment. A system of ground fixture and stabilisation suitable for all garage types was simultaneously developed. In August last year, this work gained Hochtief approval from the German Institute for Construction Technology for its steel fibre-reinforced concrete garage systems.

Household Personal Products Industry is a publication providing news and analysis of the manufacturing industry.
Hair salons and beauty salons or day spas benefit from the widespread concern of the British beauty care consumer with their appearance. Hair salons in the UK expect sales to continue growing strongly at approx 22% in 2006. Similarly beauty salons and day spas benefit from a generalized desire to reduce or delay signs of ageing and their increasing popularity with men and younger people. The time-pressed client wants convenience and one-stop-shopping for hair and face care needs. Hair salons, which also offer beauty-care services, report higher spending levels. As salons continue to diversify their services and offer more face and body care treatments, hair care services now account for under 50% of UK salon business. This is a fall of almost 10 percentage points in four short years. The link between beauty and well-being is being strengthened as busy and stressed clients of beauty institutes and day spas use face and skin care treatments not only to enhance their appearance but also to relax and pamper themselves. Celebrity sells as salons linked to celebrity hairdressers outperformed the salon sector. Some registered growth rates of 50% with increases in their number of clients and higher sales of premium priced, designer label hair care brands to customers. Product retail is becoming increasingly important as a revenue generator for British salons generally with approx three quarters of clients now buying products in the salon for at home use.

Prosecutors dropped criminal charges Wednesday against a Colorado Springs mother accused of child abuse after her four minor children got drunk at home. In the motion to dismiss, the 4th Judicial District attorney said there “is no evidence to support a crime” was committed by the mother, Jerianne Garcia, or her partner, Melissa Collins. Neighbors called police July 9 to report minors were in the Northwind Drive backyard drinking and vomiting. Colorado Springs police officers took her children, ages 9, 11, 14 and 16, and her daughters 15-year-old boyfriend to the hospital and discovered they were drunk. The 9-years blood alcohol content was 0.166, more than twice the 0.08 legal limit to drive in Colorado. Garcia said Wednesday that she was relieved the charges were dropped, and she declined to comment further. She referred questions to Collins attorney, Catherine Mitchell.

There really is an art to making a good — or “effective” — movie trailer. After all, a trailer can often make or break a movie, especially in an industry that depends on opening-weekend business. For example, theres little doubt that the early success of “Daredevil” was spurred by its exciting ads and TV spots. You have to wonder how another big superhero movie, “The Hulk” (due in June), will do, considering that its ad (which debuted during the Super Bowl) was even better. As some of you may have guessed, this is leading me into a recurring feature, my semi-regular critiques of the latest movie trailers, wherein I sometimes watch and grade trailers — not just for their entertainment value but also to assess how well they sell the movie theyre advertising. So heres my take on ads for some of this springs releases, and at least one of the early-summer blockbusters:
“Apple Trailers features promotional material for the entertainment
industrys biggest feature films. Were extremely happy that Apple is
promoting the film to its many site visitors,” stated Big Screen Senior VP
and “Babysitter” co-director, Michael Manasseri.
The “Babysitter Wanted” MPAA Green Band trailer in High Definition is
currently positioned on the Apple Trailers Main Page. “This gives
Babysitter Wanted terrific online exposure to movie fans around the
world,” added Big Screen President, David Zappone.
“Babysitter Wanted” is currently in release by Lionsgate in the United
Kingdom and it has been playing theatrically, on Pay Per View and Video on
Demand in the United States.
The film was directed by Jonas Barnes and Michael Manasseri, produced by
BSEGs Kimberley Kates, Stephen Eckelberry and David Zappone.
Trailers on Tape is an outfit that has collected dozens of old trailers (between 60 and 75 minutes worth per tape) onto sixteen videotapes including musicals and adventure movies, Alfred Hitchcock, science fiction and horror. Two of Trailers on Tapes funniest and sleaziest titles are Psychotronic: Midnight Movie Madness (everything from Texas Chainsaw Massacre to Citizen Kane), and AIP: Fast and Furious (American internationals exploitation flicks like Wild in the Streets and Beach Blanket Bingo).

MOAB — A Grand County judge denied a motion to close the preliminary hearing of 28-year-old Rex Allen Cross, accused of killing three people while driving drunk. The Deseret Morning News, the Salt Lake Tribune and The Associated Press took the lead in opposing the motion to close the preliminary hearing, with the Moab Times Independent and the Uintah Basin Standard joining. All of the media were singled out in defense attorney Robert Archuletas motion as potentially prejudicing the jury pool and compromising Cross right to a fair trial. Cross faces three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter stemming from a head-on collision on U-128 just outside of Moab. Cross is accused of driving drunk Oct. 3 when his car collided head-on with a car driven by Kathleen Perry. Kathleen Perry, 35, and her parents, Olive Parry, 67 and James Parry, 72, were killed in the accident. Kathleen Parrys 6-year-old daughter, Emma — who was also in the car at the time of the accident — survived. Emma is now living with relatives in Roosevelt. Seventh District Judge Lyle Judge Anderson ruled against the motion for a closed preliminary hearing after Grand County Attorney Happy Morgan agreed to conduct the hearing without reference to issues Archuleta may move to suppress in trial. Those include a blood draw taken from the defendant after the accident and a discussion the defendant allegedly had with investigating deputy Curt Brewer. Salt Lake attorney Michael OBrien filed an 11-page argument with the 7th District Court last week on behalf of the media and made an appearance by phone Tuesday. In his brief, OBrien maintained that “constitutional and common-law rights of access to courts and documents related to the actions of the courts” overrides the defenses claim that an open hearing will prejudice the jury pool.

ABSTRACT The growth of Internet marketing has encouraged marketing researchers to look at how traditional consumer behavior theories and models are applied in the Internet context. The current research was designed to examine how consumers apply the traditional risk-reduction strategies for Internet shopping. The findings of the research clearly identified consumers risk perception and risk-reduction strategies in the Internet, which can use to identify, develop and provide new effective strategies for the Internet to become a more successful marketing channel. Keywords: Perceived Risk, Internet Marketing, Risk Reduction Strategies The Internet already plays a major roll in all marketing areas. In response to the exponential growth of Internet shopping, understanding how traditional consumer theories are applied to the Internet is essential, especially the field where the concept of perceived risk is a major deterrent of consumer purchase decision making.

NEW YORK — The March issue of Incisive
Media’s The
American Lawyer offers the most penetrating analysis to date of
lawyer Marc
Dreier’s $400 million fraud, the most brazen and spectacular
deception in law firm history. While Dreier has pled not guilty to
prosecution charges, the cover story reveals that for at least the last
four years, his professional life has been a sham, aimed at deceiving
virtually everyone he came in contact with.
“The
Crack-up” by Alison Frankel details Dreier’s spiral towards
self-destruction, as it became progressively clearer that he was not the
high-flying litigator or convention-busting law firm innovator he so
badly wanted to be. In retrospect, what proved remarkable is that he
fooled so many people for such a long time. At the end, when his client
had found out about the phony promissory notes and the auditors lawyer
was threatening to turn him in, when the client escrow accounts had been
plundered and the hedge funds had figured out the scam, and when the
Hampton houses and the yacht and the cars and the art collection were
about to be exposed as mere props, Marc Dreier was finally ready to give
up.
In “A
Really Bad Bet,” David Bario looks at Thacher’s transformation from
a sleepy corporate shop into a runaway train fueled by the rising
secondary market for mortgage securities. Thacher became dependent on
these lucrative deals, allowing structured finance to dominate the
firms business model and refusing to consider a merger until the market
had collapsed.
